Artisan Bio: Terri Jacoby
Hello, my name is Terri, and I am a "starving artist". In 1996 I was in a horrific accident, and was and still am homebound. I needed a hobby. Since I only have the use of one hand, my pieces take extra long to make. But I do make some nice pieces of jewelry. I live in the NJ pinelands, where you have to drive any and everywhere. In 1998 I was in a car accident where I received a spinal cord injury. I was told I would never walk again, but being such a hardheaded person, I held on to things, and slowly could eventually walk. My doctors were amazed, but they could not get my left hand to work. I tried and tried in Rehab to get it going, but to no avail. I still have my hand, but I use it mainly to keep my rings on. lol. So what would normally take a normal person 15 mintes to string some beads, It usually takes me a day or two to make one necklace. Bracelets are a little more easier. I just keep trying because I enjoy making beautiful work. Hopefully my pieces will get more intricate as I learn more easier ways to do things. I have articles on other websites that tell about my accident, and how I can do this with one hand. It really does take 2 hands, but determination like I said helps me get thru it. You can read one at this site. http://www.home-jewelry-business-success-tips.com/jewelry-therapy.html I have had many e-mail from people around the world saying how much I had inspired them. Now I have a really good friend with the same problem in Australia. Even tho my pieces aren't as intricate as I would like, I'm working on it.But some ppeople that bought my pieces still can't believe I made them with only one hand. I was thinking of going to the rehab I was in , in Philadelphia, and start a beading class as a means of getting people like me to be able to create something. Sort of like Occupatiental Therepy.
